2014 Monte Rosso Zinfandel: KC STEAKS RECOMMENDATION
Planted in the 1880s , Monte Rosso — Italian for “red mountain” — is rooted in the iron-rich, volcanic soils of the Mayacamas Mountains 1,000 feet above Sonoma Valley on the western facing ridgeline. Atop the ridge, there is a constant breeze that often whips into a strong wind, accentuating the cool climate of Sonoma Valley. This venerable site’s head-pruned vines are renowned for their intensely flavored, complex Zinfandel.
The Monte Rosso Vineyard is one of the most famous in California. The 350+ acres lie near the top of the Mayacamas Range in Sonoma Valley. It is named Monte Rosso for its bright-red, iron-rich soils, which impart a remarkable perfume to all grapes from the vineyard.
