2016 Seven Hills Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley
This wine is drawn from the original estate founding Cabernet Sauvignon blocks at Seven Hills Vineyard, planted by the McClellan family in the early 1980s. The vintage marks the 29th year of making Cabernet Sauvignon from these same vines.
2016 was a vintage of welcome moderate weather, after the trio of warm years in 2013 through 2015. The grapes were ripe but balanced, with full fruit flavor. This old vine Cabernet has a dark red color and a generous nose of berry, vanillin, sweet spice, and light desert herb. The palate is open, plush and mouth-filling yet framed with silky, fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. It has flavors of raspberry, cherry, plum, and hints of herb and tobacco leaf.
