2017 Malene Grenache Noir
Our Grenache Noir is sourced from Zaca Mesa vineyard, which is one of the first vineyards planted in the Santa Ynez Valley. The warm, long growing season in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County is about as Provençal as it gets in California. The vineyard is planted against the mountains on a mesa of the northern edge of the AVA. A relatively warm, elevated site with early ripening and rocky soils, this vineyard is ideal for Grenache, and experiences cool afternoon breezes blowing east from the Pacific through the Santa Rita Hills.
Grenache Noir is a traditional component of classic Rosé and one of our favorite varietals when bottled on its own. Our 2017 Grenache Noir displays the exuberant black fruit flavors and rich, spice characteristics typically found in Grenache from cool coastal climates. The aromas are bright and bursting with notes of macerated strawberry, sun-warmed raspberry and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh with a light dusting of tannins and bright acidity that make it effortlessly food friendly.
